A Plea For Purging - Quick Is The Word; Steady Is The Action

Plea Eats Prada A Plea For Purging is perhaps best known as one of the new lineups to join Facedown Records. They were making a solid name for themselves long before that, however, as their DIY, pre-Facedown release "Quick Is The WOrd; Steady Is The Action" testifies.

This 5-piece metal outfit from, of all places, Nashville, Tennessee, spent much of the last few years doing what most bands wanting to make an impact do.....tour, record, tour, record, and tour some more. While most bands will hit the road with all they have, in an attempt to get their name out to a wider audience, Plea has set themselves apart, but not just with their live show. Their self-recorded, do-it-yourself EP "Quick Is The Word...." stands out where other regional and local bands fall far short. Their self-made EP, recorded, mixed and mastered by drummer Aaron Eckermann, shows not only their solid songwriting ability, but also showcases a superior recording that surpasses some label bands with endless recording budgets. The fact that this EP was done by the band themselves, recorded in an abandon somewhere in Arkansas, and financed with little-to-no outside help is a testament that not only is the band to be noticed, but that they are worthy of the notice that has been given them, not only by Facedown Records, but by the throngs of people they met and played for at Cornerstone 2007.

As an EP, this album is set up perfectly. The album blasts out of the gates with "Resurrection of the Beast", doesn't let up a bit with "Quick Is The Word", but then pulls back with a short, beautifully written acoustic interlude, before diving the listener headlong once again into the scorching leads, intense, non-cliche' breakdowns, and finally, the sober prayer offered up at the end of "Victory", which closes out this solid release.

It's easy to see why A Plea For Purging was such a popular show to see at this year's Cornerstone 2007. Even seeing the guys interact with their many fans, it's good to see a great group of guys get what they deserve for making the music they love so much.
