Wow, there's not a whole lot of people left. Hey, look they brought the band down to the stage. I always thought having the band thirty feet above the singer was totally goofy - it made it look more karaoke (expect for all the off key harmonies).
Andrew Llyod Webber night. Weird. I like it, but it's weird. I always thought his music was a little too like, "Hey, I'm singing an entire sentence." But whatever, he has some good stuff. The Phantom of the Opera is really good. I'm more partial to Les Miserables, but Andrew Lloyd Webber is good at what he does.
The thing is most people won't know these songs, so it's gonna be weird. I wonder who will sing Memories from Cats. People know that one. And of course "Think of Me" from Phantom. Expect a bunch of Phantom songs.
Syesha singing a jazzy type number while standing on the piano. She sounds decent, but so what? Again, she just doesn't connect. At least I'm not cringing at her pitch. Okay, I'm bored. This song is just too boring. Oops, she didn't hit her big note. She has no impact. Grade B-
Jason Castro. Oh, he's the one who's gonna singing Memories. This is a good choice because people know this song and his voice will sound good on it. Its starting out okay. His soft voice sounds really good. Oops, the key is a little low. He needs to make up for that part. Oops, pitch. It's a really intimate version. I'm not sure if I liked it all that much. At least people know the song. It wasn't terrible. Grade B-
Brooke White singing an Evita song. She always looks like she's about to cry. Ooh, she totally screwed up and started over. That's twice for her. I'm not sure if she can recover from that. That's just so distracting. I'm not even listening to her perform now. This song is too lame as well. I know tons of musicals but, not this song too much, and it's probably the number two song from this musical after Don't Cry For Me Argentina. This wasn't good. Man she's just lost it over the last few weeks. Grade D+
David A. This will be a good week for him. Oh, he's the one who's gonna sing "Think of Me". What? It's opening with a guitar. Weird. I guess it's a good idea to separate it from the original. It's also much faster. Oh, are those congas? LAME! This song has totally gone out of control. His performance was actually okay, but man, that arrangement SUCKED! If songs arrangements were food, this food would be turds. Grade B
Carly Smithson. Oh, no, she's gonna sing from Jesus Christ Superstar. She wanted to sing a Phantom song, which would have suited her. This is gonna be a wreck. America will not get this one. Oh crap, she's singing Judas' song! No freakin' way! Yeah, let's sing a song that questions Christ's wisdom. This is the absolute worst song choice ever on American Idol. They might as well not have phone lines for her. Grade F-
David Cook singing Phantom's Music of the Night. I really hope that he can save tonight. This is a great song. Hey, he's not doing badly. He's sounding quite broadway-ish. It's a decent arrangement. It's just straight from the musical. Hey, he hit the first big note really well (others do it falsetto and he did it in his normal voice). It didn't even seem high for him. His quick vibrato is working well. I'm so used to the Gerard Bulter version of this now since the movie, I never liked the Michael Crawford version. Oh wow, he had a good couple big notes at the end. Wow, that was impressive. Grade A
