Dear Conrad -- I'm just wondering about the claims of many historians of how all religions are alike (though I know they don't all lead to the same direction) in that Christianity is a religion just like Islam, or Buddhism, which just happen to diffuse successfully throughout Europe. We are taught in World History how it's just a religion spread through converted powerful rulers, crusades, and conquistadoras. How could I prove to others how Christianity did not just originate from people seeking power nor is a legend that caused wars? I need some insights only if you have time. --Anonymous
Dear Anonymous,
Unfortunately there's no way to prove anything to someone who doesn't want to believe.
Christ even faced the same issue with the Pharisees. They wanted proof, and he actually performed miracles in front of them, but due to the hardness of their hearts, the proof only hardened their hearts more.
Also, Satan takes something from God and makes his own version of it. Making it close enough, but different enough to make it wrong. Then someone will say, "See, Christianity is just like those other religions," when in reality it's the other way around.
Also, unfortunately sinful humans have taken Christianity and used it for political purposes throughout history.
You're not going to debate Christianity into anyone. Someone has to want to hear the gospel if they are going to really hear it.
Though Christianity is logical, people don't think logically. A lot of them know deep down that God exists and is moral, but that's the exact reason why they don't want to believe in God or Christianity. It tells them what they are doing is wrong. And people don't want to feel like they are wrong.
Romans 3:9-11 What shall we conclude then? Are we any better? Not at all! We have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under sin. [10] As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one; [11] there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God.
People want to be their own god.
So debating Christianity with people who hate God is useless.
Matthew 7:6 "Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs.
Just pray for opportunities to share the gospel with someone who's heart God is speaking to.
I hope that helps,
Conrad
