Imagine a time before creation or before even the existence of time. What existed? God existed, God was, God is.
God did not need to create anything, obviously however he did. So why did he create the universe? Why did he create you and me? Pondering these questions give the universe its meaning. If we were accidents, a mere combination of organic goo, then we would have no purpose. If we were all soldiers sent to a battlefield, we would have no idea what our purpose was unless we had orders. Should we storm the enemy hill or defend a ridge? Orders only make sense when there is an objective in mind. At the top of the chain of command someone has to define the Mission. Is the Mission: take over a country, or defend our homeland? Only then can a strategy be formulated, orders given, and tasked to the individual soldier. In the same way, we can only find meaning and purpose in our lives when we consider what orders we have been given, and to what end are those orders for? We must first define the Mission. In the realm of God's universe we must first understand what he has defined as his Mission.
Through God's word, God has told us all the answers to our questions such as, why we were created and how to carry out our purpose. We can take the knowledge of this purpose and use it in our everyday lives so we can live a life that is fulfilling and meaningful. God's Mission drives everything in the universe including our daily tasks.
The goal of this devotional series is to teach why God created man and what our purpose is. Through this study much can be learned about God and Man. The threefold objective is to grow in Knowledge, Being, and Doing based on what is learned. For example, what good is a sign that says, "Turn Left, Bridge Out," unless you KNOW its there, BELIEVE what it says, and ACT accordingly. The same simple principles can be applied to God's Mission. One achieves the benefits of truth only if all three objectives are obtained.
This study, written by Conrad, is set up so it can be used as a daily devotional. However, three things must be present for any study of the Bible to be useful: interaction with the Bible, the Holy Spirit and you. If one of these elements is missing, true growth cannot be achieved. Remember to keep these three elements in mind during the study of each section.
