Am I called to evangelism and discipleship? Everyone has specific callings, and everyone has some major common callings. The most fundamental common calling are found in the Original Mandate and Great Commission. The Great Commission states, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age (Matt 28:19-20)." This verse tells us what our calling is, it tells us our identity. To make disciples of other people you must first bring them to a saving knowledge of Christ. This is evangelism. Evangelism is only the first step. The new Christian is only an infant in Christ, he or she must now be taught and grown. This process is discipleship.
Discipleship is not merely to grow the person in Christ. It must be seen as growing the person for a purpose. Discipleship grows a person so that he or she can in turn go out and disciple other people. This is the way that we can fill the earth with worshippers.
Am I called to evangelism and discipleship? All Christians have the calling to be evangelisers and disciple makers. By these two actions are we able to accomplish God's Mission of filling the earth with a godly civilization.
