Dear Conrad – I have this roommate. So basically anything that's not praise and worship type music he considers bad. And yes. I've read your articles regarding this. I really don't know what to tell him though. *Sigh* He brought up that the devil can distort God's creations for his own purposes. Are there any good verses that refute this? I'm just wondering. Thanks. – Jason
Dear Jason,
Ask him if he watches TV and movies - if he says yes, call him a hypocrite and kick in in the teeth... is something I don't suggest you doing. Rather, ask him why it's okay to watch TV - which actually has worldly philosophies coming out of it, but not listen music. Also ask him, is it a sin to play basketball, because that has no ministry either.
We can’t call everything that isn’t ministry a sin, because that would mean most of the things God created, like cows and pants are sin because they don’t contain ‘ministry’ in them. It is true that Satan can distort things God created to make them sinful, so there is no verse to refute it. But that does not apply to music (that is non-vulgar, etc). So that’s like saying “The sky is blue because the grass is green.” Both are true but just because grass is really green doesn’t mean it makes the sky blue.
Satan can distort music. Praise and Worship music is fine. Both those are true, but these two statements cannot prove that Satan distorts all music.
