Dear Conrad -- Is something like speeding or parking in front of a fire hydrant a sin? Should I repent for speeding and try to not speed? Or is it some kind of you accept your punishment if you get a caught kind of thing? – Marko
That’s a really good, practical question since most of us drive everyday.
Here’s the relevant passage, (RO 13:1) “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities.”
If the government is not asking you to do anything sinful, then you are able to submit to the law, the governing authority and God all at the same time.
Driving within the speed limit, parking and traffic laws are all laws that we as Christians can and should abide by. Ultimately when we submit to authority, we submit to God’s authority as well - for he is the one who told us to submit to these authorities.
To answer the second part of your question - we should always repent and accept our punishment when we do wrong.
