Rhythm. The driving force of cannibalistic dinner parties, the musical gravity which always brings us back to a steady beat, a snapping of the fingers, a nodding of the head. The very spine in most of that which is rock music, hardcore no exception. Rhythm's especially important to the 'core’ in fact, since often there is a lack of melody in vocals. A Life Once Lost's most recent effort is absolutely free of any attempt at melodic singing. It also has almost no tonal variation in the notes the guitarists are playing.
That's right, ALOL are a chug band. The only thing their music has going for it is rhythm. Playing a grand total of three chords for all your songs means you better be pretty dang creative in the syncopation of those notes or... something. And they are... kind of. If you own The Hammering Process, then you've had your fill of this stuff. If you're in the mood for an introductory lesson in mildly creative time signatures then by all means pick this album up.
