Oooh, a poor man’s MCR… Puke!
Artist: Aiden
Album: Nightmare Anatomy
Label: Victory Records
Tracks: 11
Length: 40:17
Review by: John Durkee
Borrowing their look from AFI and borrowing their sound from My Chemical Romance (MCR) and virtually every other pop punk plus metalcore band ever, Aiden has released Nightmare Anatomy. The album is full of over hurried “post-hardcore” songs that are harsh on the ears to listen to. My guess is that Aiden figured “Maybe if we play the album really fast finish it, no one will notice how bad we really are.” Too bad that the album still managed to be 40:17, otherwise this theory might work.
The album has a mix of the hurried half spoken vocal delivery that Gerard Way of MCR employs, along with their gang vocals mixed with ad-libbed yelps, also like MCR. Though they do a few things different than MCR, they have almost no guitar solos, thrown in some breakdowns and hardcore screams, and have next to no melodies in most of their songs.
Hmm… If I was trying to make a melodic pop meets hardcore sound, I think I would make sure there was plenty of memorable or at least super annoyingly catchy melodies to go with the hardcore breakdowns…
If the idea of melody-less pop punk meets metalcore really gets your heart a beatin’ and hips a shakin’, then by all means pick up Nightmare Anatomy, but otherwise stay away from this bad copy of a copy.
