Review by: Mike “T-Bone” Leech If I had to describe this CD in five words or less I would say...
Lush, Psychedelic, Playful, Dreamy, Infectious.
If I had to describe this CD in thirteen words or less I would say...
A densely layered pop mixture of The Beach Boys and Super Furry Animals.
If there were no limit to the amount of words I could use to describe this CD I would say...
All Night Radio combines futuristic effects with rich vocal harmonies and a trippy 60’s vibe to create some pretty impressive ear candy on this striking debut album. Spirit Stereo Frequency is a consistently enjoyable listen from start to finish. The opening number, “Daylight Till Dawn,” reminds me of something the Brady kids might have sung in that episode where they all go on the talent show to win $20,000 (remember?). On the other hand, the dizzying “Oh, When?” could arguably serve as the perfect soundtrack to a night of hard narcotics abuse. The brilliant eight-minute closer, “All Night Radio,” builds to euphoric heights for the first two or three of those minutes before evaporating into a quiet swirl of clean guitar over a sea of chirping crickets. Spirit Stereo Frequency is a record full of pristine pop songs easily securing All Night Radio as a new group to keep an eye out for in 2004.
