There is not one hardcore band in the scene today that I want to sing along more to than Betrayed. I have yet to see them live but when/if that day come, I am going to give it my all. Betrayed features Aram Arstanaian (Champion), Todd Jones (Terror, Carry On), Greg Bacon (Carry On, The First Step) and Todd Preboski (Champion). Betrayed has a sound all their own but that doesn't mean that their music doesn't bleed profusely of their influences. You can hear the likes of Minor Threat, Dag Nasty, Embrace and Turning Point in each and every song and I love it!
There is something in these lyrics that you won't find in many bands in punk rock and hardcore today...substance. It's the title of the album as well as the title track but it's nothing but the truth. These songs are just powerful in lyrical content. They are just brutally honest and full of positivity, understanding and truth. Nothing is watered down.
Substance has thirteen track but not all of them are new. Consequence and Bring It To Life were on the Champion/Betrayed split and have been re-recorded for Substance. Understand and A Light In The Dark have been re-recorded for Substance but were previously released on the Addiction E.P.
It has been an amazing year for hardcore and it has only gotten better with Substance. I love this album. I love this band. Get this album. It's not your run of the mill hardcore album. It actually has substance!
