Hailing from Canada, Boys Night Out is a band that proves to intertwine influences of pop-punk and metal into one outstanding sound. While I am personally not the biggest fan of pop-punk music, Boys Night Out seems to make it a lot more attractive.

I first heard the band after hearing “I Got Punched in the Nose for Sticking My Face in Other People’s Business” online, this is also the first track off of their debut full-length. It perfectly mixes the pop-punk and metal themes. While many may see this as a pop-punk record, I see the metal in it, not only through the screaming and such, but also in the song writing style and lyrics. This is especially evident in the albums ballad, and midpoint, in “Hold on Tightly, Let Go Lightly”. I personally like the more metal songs that are at the end of this record, especially in songs like “The Anatomy of the Journey”, and “Yeah, No… I Know…”.

Near the end of the record, I see more definitive lines in the songs genres, and the pop-punk and metal aren’t as intertwined. Overall though, I see “Make Yourself Sick” as a great example of taking the catchiness of pop-punk and blending in metal, which is used in various levels throughout the CD.
