Artist: Cobra Noir Album: Abode Of The Dead Label: Cyclop Media/Magic Bullet Tracks: 10 Reviewed By: Chaz
Cobra Noir really doesn't fit into any genre. They have a sound that could find a nice little nitch in the liberalism of screamo but it's not a perfect fit. They fit somewhere between the craziness of Pg99, the complexity of Frodus and the emotionalism of Waifle. I mention all three of these bands because they are all on the label that Cobra Noir calls a part time home, Magic Bullet Records. They could probably feel at home with Alone, Ebullition, Robotic Empire or Three One G Records. If you are a fan of any of these labels than you might have a better understanding of what I am talking about. They have also been compared to or recommended if you like Cursed and Tragedy. This album is pretty solid. The recording quality is the only major problem I have with it. It does reflect the quality of the past releases of the labels I mentioned before. The recording quality reminds me of Boy Sets Fire - This Crying, This Screaming, My Voice Is Being Born. At times it can be annoying but it doesn't take away from any of the rawness of this band. Solid.
