Artist: Comfortable for You
Album: My Entire Life is a Lie
Loud and Clear Records
6 Tracks ~ 26 Minutes
The business of life often interferes with what we love most. I just got a new job, city, house, so my music listening time has been pretty sparse. I found cds from over a year ago that I have yet to listen to. Seeing my pile of uncharted cds kind of killed my spirit for discovering new bands because there was still so much to take in. If you find yourself with a pile of music still unconquered, stick this one at the top of the stack.
"My Entire Life is a Lie" is expertly delivered with precision and urgency. The vocals linger between floating post punk-era snide singing and raw screams. The dual guitars swirl in unison. 2 minute long laid-back instrumental segments build into violent crescendo. Every moment, from the opener Bryan Wilson's Mountain Thrash-Gnar to How's Your Wild Life, is interesting and the 26 minute disc never failed to keep my attention.
Fortunatley (or unfortuantely), this cd screams (literally) of Refused, Cap'n Jazz, At the Drive In (In Casino-Out era), and other such post-punk/hardcore bands. This is perhaps a fulfillment of the prophecy that was "the Shape of Punk to Come". I personally don't have a problem with that, but for a scene that prides itself on invention and art, this particular relese does seem to follow a bit too closely to the down-trodden post punk path to be taken as completely original. Nevertheless, this is an enjoyable release in all aspects, and a fan of the above bands should take the time to check it out.
