It's not every day the Chicago Tribune has the indie music world buzzing but a full page ad in today's edition managed to start a roar of hope or embarrasment, depending on your stance. Billy Corgan has taken out a
full page ad in today's Tribune where he says he wants to bring healing to the notoriously dysfunctional yet brilliant Chicago outfit.
The ad appears on the same day Corgan releases his debut solo LP
The Future Embrace. In the statement Corgan thanks Chicago for the support and "undying love" he has received from the city but the real point of the ad doesn't come until the final paragraphs.
"For a year now I have walked around with a secret ... I have made plans to revive and renew The Smashing Pumpkins. I want my band back, and my songs, and my dreams," Corgan said in part. The other members of SP are yet to make public statements and it's unclear whether Corgan has approached them before publishing the ad.
