Somewhere in the land of hardcore, DC emo and punk rock is where Long Island, NY's Crime In Stereo lies. They have an amazing cross over style but still remain in the hardcore scene. They have quickly become one of my favorite bands in the hardcore scene today, if not ever. They have the ability to be technical and artistic but also to flex their hardcore muscle and pound out the anthems. I would have to say the bands strongest hand is in their lyrics. They have some of the most intelligent lyrics I have heard in a long time. It's the main reason I am drawn to this band. I am 25. I find it extremely comforting hearing a band in my age range that sing about the things that are facing me each and everyday, in life, in society and in the hardcore scene.
The Troubled Stateside is Crime In Stereo's second full length. They have also released two EP's and a split with Kill Your Idols. They have come so far from their first album, Explosions And The Will To Use Them. That album was on Blackout! Records and it was an amazing album but they have definitely spread their wings with The Troubled Stateside. Their music has become more technical and the production quality is far better than their past efforts. Lyrically, you can see the maturity. The lyrics are about redemption and the struggles of being a poor band and how to handle becoming an adult and making the decisions that come along with the age and the destruction and problems of our American society. I find just about every line talking straight to me. This is my favorite album of the year. In and out, there isn't one flaw on this recording. So I will put a big black sticker on the front that says "For Fans Of:" Gorilla Biscuits, Lifetime and Kid Dynamite.
