Review By: Jacob “Just Keeps Truckin’” Gehman
From the horrible cover art to the awful album title down to the Parental Advisory labeled lyrics of “Honestly; I Love You *cough*,” Cirera seems bent on having to earn his fans the hard way. Not too many artists not found in the hardcore rap or heavy metal section of a music store could get away with lyrics like the ones found here. Would Eminem blush? Probably not. Nevertheless, it is doubtful if he’d find them tame, either.
Cirera’s music is the only potential redeeming quality. The cd is in no way amazing, but it’s not a really painful listen, either. His acoustic songs are mellow and make me think that this might be what would happen if Tenacious D and Nellie McKay would have a child and hire Bright Eyes to be the nanny. It is the fun additions like a horn section or harmonica that make songs really shine.
His singing is nice, and kind of ironic since it’s not often that someone so deserving of the PA Label is found singing sensitive, acoustic music without any sort of major electric edge of some sort. The way he sings you wouldn’t know that the "f" bomb is dropping or he’s insulting an ex-girlfriend. He delivers it all very casually.
If you like acoustic music and don’t mind frequently shocking lyrics, Daniel Cirera might be something to check out. However, the lyrical content is disappointing considering the strong musical showing Cirera puts forth. It is possible that the lyrical content will keep him from ever being able to rise about the label of “novelty.” If only all novelties sounded this decent.
