Gotta give them credit for trying...

It's been so long since I've heard a band that is not easily stuck into some sub-genre of punk, hardcore, or metal. For that, I have to give Days Like These some credit. With "Inventure", they offer their brand of straight-up rock for their fans, void of any cliché trappings that usually accompany many releases these days. That seems to be where the good ends with this cd, however.
Musically, it seems that many of the songs on this sophmore outing follow the formula of verse/chorus/verse. There isn't much new under the sun in the way of neither song structure, nor anything that could be considered 'out of the box'. That's a shame, because it seems that they could do much more, given the amount of potential it seems lies under the surface here.
Lyrically, the album doesn't seem to fare much better. Alot of comfortable rhyming lines encompass most of the lyrical content of the cd. Vocally, Angel Santiago does fairly well, showing chops that do have to be recognized as solid, if nothing else.
The good thing Days Like These has going for them, is that they are young. With this, just their second full length, being released, they have time to still grow and mature musically into a solid rock outfit that has the potential to garner some attention, even if only on more of an indie scale.
