This is one of those bands where you can pretty much tell what kind of music they play from the second you hear their name. In fact, I’m pretty sure that a band with a name like Feeling Left Out has a legal obligation in most states to play acoustic emo ballads exclusively.
It wouldn’t be safe to label these guys a Dashboard clone, but they do come pretty close at times. The vocals are by far the most glaring similarity, but in terms of songwriting, where Dashboard uses catchy hooks as a foundation to build off of, these guys seem content to simply let their music drift from place to place. Many of the songs contain long, drawn-out instrumental sections which can be fairly hypnotic at times (i.e., the last half of “Secret Song”), but will leave you looking at your watch more often than not. If you’re into the “acoustic/emo/lyrics about girls who live too far away” thing, then this is the album for you. Unfortunately, Feeling Left Out delivers far too little variation and originality to maintain anyone else’s interest.
