Artist: Park
Album: Building a Better _____
Label: Lobster Records
Tracks: 11
Length: 40 minutes
Review by: John Durkee
After looking at the album art and listening to small samples of this record, I had heard some great and interesting guitar and drum parts with interesting bass lines. Therefore I expected great things. While I didn't get a terrible record, after a further listening I noticed average vocals and melodies that were catchy, but nothing substantial. Park incorporates a good amount of layered sounds that have good dynamics and utilize softer elements with fragile vocals along with some nice heavier tendancies. Their musicianship is better than most in their genre.
Apparently Park has put out two prior albums that have experienced some levels of critical and commercial success. Apparently much of this record is a stylistic repeat of their previous efforts but different enough that old fans will be happy.
There aren't really any tracks that stand out too much, but they are all pretty good in their own right. If one likes the emo/pop punk/indie genre, this is as good as most others, but nothing amazing either. Repeated listens make it lose steam, but its a decent record.
