I know what you’re thinking, “Isn’t this fairly old?” The answer is both yes and no. This is the “limited edition” version of the album that rescued Pillar from suffering a slow and painful death as a rap rock band. Pillar has made great strides since its release and I’d much rather be reviewing an album of all new material than this.
For those who are still in the dark about this album, its Pillars breakout performance. It’s one of the strongest hard rock albums ever to be released in the Christian market and holds it up amazingly strong to its mainstream counterparts. Whether you love or hate Pillar, they are immensely popular and this is a great record no matter how you’d like to slice it. The “Limited Edition” part is the fact that this re-release offers two bonus tracks (a previously available cover of “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and a remix of the album’s hit single “You Can’t Bring Me Down”) and a bonus DVD with about an hours worth of footage.
In a way this album really bugs me because there is no reason for it. There is virtually no reason to buy this album over again if you already own it. The masses are ready for a new Pillar record, so let’s get on with it and stop with the stalling, eh?
