So this is what Plain White T’s sound like. I have heard OF them a lot but have to admit that this is my first experience with them and I’m fairly into it. This is a fan friendly EP that consists of the fan favorite “Hey There Delilah” as well as 4 brand new songs and a live version of the EP’s centerpiece. The CD also contains three videos (“Take Me Away”, “Hey There Delilah”, and “All That We Needed”).
“Hey There Delilah” is a great acoustic number that stands up on repeated listens without getting cheesy. The live version is even better in my opinion because the crowd singing it gives it an even more powerful feel. As far as the new songs go, I have nothing to compare them to but I like them. It reminds me of a cross between The Knack (for anyone that remembers them) and Fall Out Boy. The new songs are all pretty much mid-tempo rockers that are produced kinda thinly but manage to rise above it anyway. I particularly like the catchy “If I Told You.”
Overall I dig this. I had heaped the band unfairly in with the myriad of indie rock bands out there today but they have a little different feel that helps them to standout from the pack. I will definitely be checking out more of these guys.
