Saboteur was born out of members of two Deep Elm bands, Red Animal War and Slowride. While on tour in Europe in 2003, Justin Wilson and Steve Visneau began kicking around ideas for a band that would be separate from their current endeavors. What came about was Saboteur, a straight-up punk band on the End Sounds label. These 7 songs reverberate with angst and power, while successfully veering away from the dangerous world of formulaic power punk. Even music fans whose first love is not punk rock can appreciate the debut effort put forth here by the trio from Dallas, as the songs are, for the most part, solid and tightly knit together, with solid vocals and layered guitar work. Recorded by Deedle LaCour, who produced both Slowride and Red Animal War, this ep is a strong first effort from seasoned musicians that succeeds at staying out of the realm of being typical and rehashed.
