There are a lot of problems with this band in the first place. I am torn. One side of me tells me that I love this band and the other side of me tells me that I love this band but I probably shouldn't. Set Your Goals took their name from one of the greatest poppy hardcore albums ever Set Your Goals by CIV. That is one thing I love about the band. How can you describe their sound though? It's part pop punk (like new found glory pop punk) and then it's part poppy hardcore (like CIV/Gorilla Biscuits/Lifetime). It's so crowd sing along friendly it makes me laugh. They have dual vocals which only appeals to crowd sing alongs even more. They also have some really great mosh friendly breakdowns.
Reset was originally Straight On Records but now has been re-issued by one of my most lest favorite labels, Eulogy. How did this happen. Well, Eulogy did originally bring us New Found Glory, Dashboard Confessional and Low End Theory so I guess I can see it happening. Reset has all five original tracks and also has an added cover song to it. Set Your Goals decided to cover "Do You Still Hate Me?" by the legendary Jawbreaker and it's a really great cover.
This band will cross over and back so many times within the world of hardcore and pop punk. I can just imagine one of their shows in a few years. I can picture all the fifteen year old Fall Out Boy (or whatever pop punk band is HUGE at that point) fans singing along with all the moshing hardcore kids. Wow. Could be fun to watch and I know that I will probably be up front singing along.
