I like EPs because they are a good judge of how good a band can be without requiring half a paycheck to find out. The-Films’ self titled ep (or maxi-single, or whatever you want to call a cd with just over 8 minutes of music) is short which is just enough time for them to spark my interest and short enough that they don’t loose it.

Nothing on this cd will blow the doors off of a Mercedes. However, it is sharply arranged and put together. The songs are catchy, memorable, and throw in enough instrumental creativity from verse to verse to prevent songs from feeling two minutes too long.

The-Films play that jangley, snotty throwback rock that is so popular these days. They don’t re-invent the genre, but I’d rather listen to this EP several times than a Franz Ferdinand album. Hey, it’s only $3 off of Filter US’s website so if you enjoy that sort of rock check this out.
