Hmm....blah just about sums it up.
Artist: The Audition
Album: Controversy Loves Company
Label: Victory Records
Tracks: 10
Running Time: 34 Minutes
The Audition are another "emo" outfit from Victory Records. Controversy Loves Company is their first major label release. Unfortunately, this disc falls into the abyss that is mediocre "emo."
Controversy Loves Company left quite a bit to be desired. The chorus lines are somewhat catchy, but they weren't able to suck me in like great songs do. These chorus lines are probably the strong point of this disc. You know it's not good when the bright spot of a CD is just run of the mill.
Another problem with the album is the lyrics. I don't think I could get into these lyrics even if my favorite bands were using them. The opening track, "Dance Halls Turn To Ghost Towns" is constantly comparing a relationship to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I don't know if I'm not trendy or something, but I just can't get into a song like that. The rest of the disc features some more typical lyrics about girls and such. The lyrics just don't seem original or heartfelt. Some bands can still make decent albums with average lyrics, but The Audition doesn't have the musicianship to do that.
The bottom line is you should probably stay away from this disc unless Victory Records "emo" excites you. There have been many bands just like this before and many more will come. It's just another average at best rock...excuse me..."emo" album. This just didn't do much for me.
