If you were nodding when I mentioned Brandtson, Mae, and Lovedrug you might like The Class of 98.
Artist: The Class of 98
Album: Touch This And Die!
Label: The Militia Group
Tracks: 12
Length: 36:25
Well, The Militia Group certainly didn’t go the extra mile for this advance review copy of The Class of 98’s debut album. A simple, clear slip sleeve, CD-R with band name, title, and label without any track names, lyrics, or band bio. I even tried The Militia Group’s website where I discovered a picture of the cd cover, but still struck out on track titles. So forgive me for not calling out specific tracks by name.
I have a friend who likes the whole Militia Group/Brandtson/Mae thing so whenever I ride in her car it’s consistently this emotional branch of indie rock giving me a headache. It is enough to drive this reviewer mad, who ironically does not share the opinions everyone, or even the majority of the readers of this site (see the Mae review, for example).
As maddening as the genre is, The Class of 98 are at their best when they fall into the Lovedrug-esque style of rocking, crying, and songwriting. The Lovedrug mimicry doesn’t happen frequently, but when it does it’s a nice change of pace, especially on track four (whatever it’s called). If you were nodding when I mentioned Brandtson, Mae, and Lovedrug you might as well add The Class of 98 to your collection.
