This is The Finals debut full length album. I was immediately drawn to this album due to its comic style cover art (I’m a sucker for it- I admit it) but after the first listen I had pretty much lost interest.
Honestly The Finals have created a very forgettable album. That doesn’t mean their bad though- you see they do all the right things. They are part rock, part pop punk, a little bit of spacey keyboards, fair at their instruments, and the album is produced pretty well to boot. All the makings of a solid indie rock album are included and that is probably what defeats it so quickly. Songs like the up tempo “Extended Autumn” and the quieter “Black Market Babies” are solid enough songs but they sound EXACTLY like any number of equally forgettable bands that are mass purchased by teenagers desperate to “find themselves”.
I hate to sound so negative because really if all you listen to is indie rock and that’s how you identify yourself then you could do much worse than Plan Your Getaway. Unfortunately nothing stands out here so it easily fades into party background music.
