The Like are a trio are of girls hailing from Los Angeles. Founded in 2001, the threesome have been creating rock songs for four years. "Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking?" takes on a typical pop/rock type feel. The key difference maker being The Like is comprised of all females. The result if something different from most other bands and is somewhat refreshing.
"June Gloom" is hands down the best single on the disc. It starts out with a driving beat and repeated clean chords on the guitar. This softer, driving sound blends great with the vocals. It ends up creating a nostalgic sort of feeling. Yes, you read correctly. Later in "June Gloom", the girls crank up the distortion for a heavier chorus. This song shows the strengths of The Like. They are comfortable with several styles of rock and the vocals have the range to make it work. Other styles like folk and indie rock also make several appearances.
The producer of this album Wendy Melvoin did an outstanding job. The disc sounds great track after track.
However, eventually their brand of rock gets a bit old. They do a decent job of having variety with only one guitar, but the guitar sound is still fairly boring. That said, this record has warmed me up a bit more to bands with female vocalists. The Like do their thing well.
