Upon first listen, The Twilight Transmission's "The Dance of Destruction" doesn't sound all that bad. This 5-piece band hailing from Orange County, California unleashes a solid brand of post-hardcore that grabs your attention fairly quickly. The vocals however, do detract from the music just a bit, with a high-pitched vocal falling somewhere inbetween early post-hardcore and hair metal.
The band features members formerly of Mean Season and Outspoken, and blends well their brand of post-hardcore. What it lacks, however, are the elements that made their predecessors like Texas Is The Reason, Quicksand, and Elliot great. It seems that as hard as they try, they cannot quite measure up to those before them. Perhaps on a different label, The Dance of Destruction might come off as a much more solid effort, but the stigma of the label they are with, and the history of bands that have come off that label, make this 8 song album little more than just another release on a legendary label. While that is not the band's fault (after all, they were good enough to get on the label), it is still a fact that is hard to overlook for anyone who has followed Revelation Records since any time after the mid-90's.
