With some noodles, a bag of rice or two, and wet lighters and matches, Timmy Turner’s crew set off in to the setting for the film Second Thoughts. Before watching Second Thoughts, I had never seen any of his work before so I didn’t know what to expect. This also may be because of the limited exposure of surfing in Ohio. After watching Second Thoughts, I can definitely say that Timmy Turner, Travis Potter, and Brett Schwartz seem to be some of the most hardcore surfers out there.
The film itself takes place in Indonesia on one of its small islands with a beach full of dangerous reef. The group was put in a situation that seems a lot harsher than that of “Survivor”, as they were faced with some severe weather conditions and facing new challenges in their eating habits. They were forced to gather rainwater, as well as salt water, to boil and drink. You are taken along on their journey through the rainforest of Indonesia and their treacherous hikes on their quest for the perfect surfing destination.
The water photography of the DVD is some of the greatest that I have seen. It gives you many different points of view, and shows great footage of Turner, Potter and Schwartz taking on the waves of Indonesia. The DVD is narrated by Timmy Turner, and gives us insight in to all that happened to the crew throughout their month long journey.
One thing that really caught my attention about this DVD was its soundtrack. I enjoyed the music a lot, because it fit very well into what I was seeing on the screen. The soundtrack includes the likes of Yovee, H.B. Surround Sound, Innaway, Dirty Heads, Scott Holiday & Mike Medlin, Ithaka, and Randy Shockne. I personally had never heard of any of these artists before, but I am glad to say that all of their talents were used perfectly in unison with the film itself.
Overall, I loved the film Second Thoughts, because it was full of excitement and really drew you in to see what was going to happen next. Second Thoughts proved to be much more than just another surf DVD, because it threw in the twist of a Survivor-esque feel, as well as a soundtrack that fits hand in hand with the footage.
