Take two parts Jello Biafra and one part danceable Green Day...
Artist: We Are the Fury
Album: Infinite Jest
Label: East West
Tracks: 5
Length: 17:29
Punk rockers (stressing the rock part) We Are the Fury make their major label debut with Infinite Jest, 5 strong songs that will, at the very least, make you take notice of this band. When “Better Off This Way”, the opening track on Infinite Jest, hits you know right away that this is a band that could be huge.
Vocalist Jeremy Lublin’s odd voice is what catches you first, sounding like a cross between late Dead Kennedy’s and early Green Day. Honestly, his voice is a lot of what keeps me coming back, his voice sounds just familiar enough that you get sucked in but, at the same time, I can’t name anyone else that he truly sounds like. The band ably backs that voice with a not quite raw/not quite polished brand of punk that sort of bridges the gap between the Newfound Glory’s and Blink 182’s of the world and the world of what most of us refer to as “actual punk rock.” I have always wondered if the two truly connected but We Are the Fury proves to be the missing link.
Clocking in at a mere 5 songs, this album is little more than a teaser. With songs like “Better Off This Way” and the 80’s influenced, politically charged “Nation, Forgive Us” We Are the Fury are off to a strong start. The band offers plenty of hooks to latch onto and manage to stay away from the cheese factor for the most part. It’s not exactly groundbreaking but it’s better than most of what’s out there for sure.
