With Blood Comes Cleansing can’t seem to make up their mind if they want to be Celtic Frost or Severe Torture, offering a cliché blend of death and black metal that is, at best, very tired sounding. I love this style of music but I have to be honest and say that these guys really just compiled every single thing you are “supposed” to do musically in this exaggerated genre, leaving the theatrics (and thus the entertainment value) at home.
Golgotha delivers as accurately as a textbook but also as passionately. The band have blistering riffs, blast beats, black metal screams, death metal growls, and plenty of breakdowns borrowed from death metal by early metalcore bands. That’s where the similarities end though. It lacks anything that would set itself apart from the thousands of soundalikes that grace Hot Topic walls. There are no creepy interludes, sideshow freaks, or “make you cringe at the thought of it” lyrical content. All of those things could compensate for the band’s weak sound. Instead the albums finest moments, songs like “Mark Your Words” and “My Help,” barely rise to mediocre.
This album sounds way overdone. I have always felt that if you have to try really hard than you are playing the wrong style of music and these guys just sound like they are trying way too hard. If you are a fan of extreme music I doubt that this will feed your hunger.
