Review By: Jacob Gehman
I had a whole review written out for this EP. I read over it and decided it was utter crap. Delete, don’t save, don’t pass go, don’t collect $200. Adios smart aleck whims, enter deep musical musings.
Screams don’t save you. Nay, screaming (the art of forcing air uncontrollably through your vocal chords) is hardly necessary when listening to the “Dimensions EP” from Wolfmother. What starts as being a normal throwback rock album quickly becomes just a really fine example of how to show your influences and yet keep your own vision and identity and creativity. There is hardly a dull moment in these four songs. Wolfmother knows how to keep things moving and interesting.
Song composition is Wolfmother’s big strength. These aren’t your grandmother’s three minute verse-chorus-verse-bridge-chorus formulaic tripe. You’re just not quite sure what’s going to happen next. At the same time, however, the songs are also exceptionally catchy and would create a great live sing-a-longs.
The only problem is that this cd is an EP with only four songs on it. It ends all too quickly. However, as complaints go that is fairly minor and I can’t wait for the full length to hit America.
