Salt makes most everything better. McDonald's fries is one of the greatest foods that God has blessed us with, but it's better with salt. All meat needs salt to actually taste good. And I think bacon somehow naturally has salt, that's why it's a perfect food. It's already naturally satly. It's like they made the bacon from pigs who bathed daily in a rainbow from heaven. A rainbow made of salt.
I don't even want to know what bacon would taste like if it wasn't salty. It'd be bland grease and fat. Not offering anything good. It's like if you took away Pixar from Disney, you'd have nothing.
That's the way God sees us in this world.
Matthew 5:13 "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
Okay, uh, so how are we salt? First off salt is two things, a flavoring or preservative.
Think of the world as a plate of bacon. Without salt - you have a pile of grease and fat. With salt - wondrous and amazing magic.
Now God wants us to be the salt of the earth. Here the earth is the pile of grease and fat. If we do what salt it supposed to - then we transform the world into something good.
Uh yeah, so, how am I supposed to be salt?
The salt is God's Word and his Kingdom. Anytime we go out there and live or promote God's Word by affecting other people, we are transforming the world. Just like how you might have some salt over on these fries, but not on the other fries - we need to go to those other fries and throw salt.
Your school are those fries, your place of work, your family, your church, the arts, music, the economy, our society. All these things need salt.
God wants us to season the world. You have this magic salt shaker that you can go around shaking on people - spreading God's Kingdom and spreading His love, changing people as you go along.
Do people see a difference in you? In how you handle adversity, how you show love, how you treat your family, friends, strangers, internet people? Do you make the people around you love God more, or do you just annoy people and make them mad just so you can get your point across?
Do you look for ways to help others or do you look for ways to help yourself?
So don't lose your saltiness.
Matthew 5:13 "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
If you lose your saltiness, what purpose do you serve? None.
So let's go out there and do something. We need to change people's lives. We need to show God's love to others. But first we need to change our lives - by understanding what purpose we serve for God. And that is to be the salt of the earth.
