So here's my take on summer movies so far.
Iron Man. Yeah, you know what I'm gonna say - it was tons of fun. It got most everything right. It avoided a lot of missteps from other movies such as boring research scenes (like Ang Lee's Hulk) by having a robot to talk to and make jokes with, weak female leads (Batman Begins, Spiderman) by having an Oscar winning actress and villans where you can't have big ending slug fest showdown (Ang Lee's Hulk, Superman Returns). Only the music sucked, everything else was very cool.
Speed Racer. Whoa, this was totally fun too. I wasn't expecting anything. It basically was a live action cartoon, where all the physics, dialogue, fighting scenes were right out of a cartoon. And surprisingly, the movie had a decent amount of emotion. I know you didn't see this, so I recommend you do (if you can find it - it was a total financial bomb).
Prince Caspian. Wow, I was really disappointed. I for one really liked the first movie. And I understand why it would be much harder to make this movie work. About half of the book is spent on Prince Caspian's childhood, and you can't have that. He doesn't even meet the Pevensie kids till like two-thirds into the book. The book really only keeps a couple of the events in there.
Okay, fine, let's forget the book, we're trying to make a movie right? Well, in a movie you need characters, and it just totally forgot about that. I'm not even talking about the absolutely overlooked main secondary characters like Trumpkin. They really forgot about the characters in this one and I really just didn't care. The dialogue was clunky and it nothing worked.
Indiana Jones. For the biggest disappointment of the year award, I give to Lucas and Spielberg. This one was even worse than Temple of Doom (which I hated). The first half of this movie wasn't all that bad, but once the movie hit the Tarzan scene, it was all downhill. Things got worse and worse till mercifully the movie ended and I was able to have someone punch me in the face to help me forget about it.
